My six year old son Noah has been on fall break for the last week and a half. One of the great things about being an entrepreneur is I can spend the extra time with him without getting approval from the boss! It has been a great break. We spent 4 days at Disneyland which has become a fall break tradition. Even on vacation at the Happiest Place on Earth, I was reminded what one can experience when they set fear aside and just go for it.
In past years, Noah has been too afraid to go on the roller coasters. This year, he reluctantly agreed to give them a shot. He was a little anxious in line, but he climbed into the Matterhorn bobsled and strapped himself in. He asked me to hold him tight which of course was music to my ears. As we raced around the track and came face to face with the abominable snow monster, Noah just laughed and yelled. You can guess his comments as we exited the ride. “That was awesome! Let’s go again!” Over the next 3 days, we rode Matterhorn an additional 4 times, Space Mountain twice, and Big Thunder Mountain 4 times. By the last day, Noah’s hands were in the air. He had not only overcome his fear, but he became more willing to push his limits. The excitement and exhilaration he expressed every time was priceless.
What does this have to do with you and your success? Think about it: What has fear kept you from doing? What could you accomplish if you worked through your fears or just removed them? How would you feel? I challenge you to find out!! When you overcome fear, you will not only find success but you’ll become energized and excited about what you have accomplished. So climb onboard, strap in and go for it!! Oh, and if you too need support like Noah did, give me a call and see if Coaching is right for you.
